Same-Day Dental Crowns in Berea, Ohio
Get a permanent, custom-made ceramic crown in a single 2-hour visit — no temporary, no second appointment.
A dental crown used to mean two appointments, a temporary crown that didn't quite fit right, and two weeks of waiting for the lab to send back your permanent one. Dr. Kleem's Berea dental office uses CEREC technology to change all of that. Your permanent, precision-fit ceramic crown is designed, milled, and placed — all in a single visit, usually about two hours from start to finish.
What Is CEREC Technology?
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. It's an in-office system that combines digital imaging, computer-aided design, and precision milling — all without sending anything to an outside dental lab.
Here's how the process works at our Berea office:
- 1 3D Digital Scan: Dr. Kleem uses a small handheld wand to take a precise 3D scan of your tooth. No messy impression material — just a comfortable, accurate digital image.
- 2 Computer-Aided Design: The scan feeds directly into our CEREC design software. Dr. Kleem customizes the shape and contour of your crown to match your surrounding teeth perfectly.
- 3 In-Office Milling: The design is sent to our in-office milling unit, which carves your crown from a solid block of high-strength ceramic — right here in the office while you wait.
- 4 Same-Day Placement: Dr. Kleem checks the fit, makes any final adjustments, and bonds your permanent crown in place. You leave with a finished, permanent restoration — no temporary, no follow-up appointment needed.
The entire appointment typically takes about two hours. You'll spend some of that time relaxing while the milling unit does its work — most patients bring headphones or simply catch up on their phone.
When Do You Need a Dental Crown?
Crowns are one of the most versatile restorations in dentistry. Dr. Kleem may recommend a crown in any of the following situations:
- Cracked or fractured tooth: A crack that goes beyond the enamel can cause pain when chewing and puts the tooth at risk of splitting further. A crown covers and holds the tooth together, protecting it from additional damage.
- Large cavity: When decay has destroyed too much of a tooth to hold a filling reliably, a crown is the best way to restore full strength and function.
- After a root canal: Root canal treatment removes the nerve and inner tissue of a tooth, which can make it more brittle over time. A crown placed after a root canal seals and strengthens the tooth so it can last for many years.
- Severely worn or damaged tooth: Years of grinding, acid erosion, or general wear can leave teeth too short or misshapen. A crown restores proper size, shape, and bite function.
- Cosmetic restoration: Crowns can be used to dramatically improve the appearance of a severely discolored, misshapen, or broken tooth when veneers or bonding aren't a sufficient option.
If you're unsure whether a crown is the right treatment for you, Dr. Kleem will take X-rays, examine the tooth, and walk you through your options clearly — with no pressure to proceed until you're ready.
CEREC vs. Traditional Crowns
Traditional lab-made crowns require two appointments spaced about two weeks apart, rubber impression material (which many patients find uncomfortable), and a plastic temporary crown that can crack or fall off in the meantime. CEREC eliminates all of that.
| Feature | CEREC (Same-Day) | Traditional Lab Crown |
|---|---|---|
| Appointments | 1 visit | 2 visits (2 weeks apart) |
| Impressions | Digital 3D scan | Messy impression material |
| Temporary Crown | None needed | Required for 2 weeks |
| Material | High-strength ceramic | Porcelain, metal, or PFM |
| Metal-Free | Yes | Depends on type selected |
| Precision Fit | Computer-designed | Technician hand-crafted |
CEREC ceramic crowns are metal-free, tooth-colored, and blend naturally with your surrounding teeth. Most patients are genuinely surprised by how seamless the final result looks — and even more surprised that they didn't have to come back for a second appointment.
If you have a tooth that needs a crown, don't put it off — a cracked or weakened tooth can worsen quickly. Call Dr. Kleem at (440) 239-8389 to schedule an evaluation, or book an appointment online. Most crown appointments can be scheduled within a few days, and many insurance plans cover a portion of the cost.
